Student book Year 10+Based on Arthur Miller’s play about Italian immigrants in New York, this study guide includes several pages of useful background information, including first-hand accounts of immigrants’ experiences on arriving in America. The study guide is illustrated with many archive photographs, showing the receiving station at Ellis Island and the living and working conditions of many new arrivals. Ways of studying the characters are suggested, as well as activities that invite exploration of the relationships constructed by the play. Ideas for writing and discussion also are provided. An attempt is made to help students consider the play as ‘drama’ rather than just a story in dialogue.
